Using donated hardware, open-source products, and a growing understanding of the complexities of managing a distributed monitoring network, GrabPERF has become a focal point for understanding and improving Web performance.
Built as a testbed for Web performance measurement concepts, GrabPERF is a constantly evolving technology project.
Why do we do this? All companies with a Web presence, regardless of size, should be able to build fast and reliable applications, and be able to demonstrate their success.
GrabPERF has grown to serve the needs of a demanding IT audience. Providing basic measurement services, GrabPERF measurement data is used as a key performance benchmark by some of the key players in the second wave of Web evolution, the read/write web.
GrabPERF is a free service, with hardware and bandwidth provided by Technorati.
How does it work?
GrabPERF currently uses a number of remote measurement locations to collect data and deliver it to a central data-collection facility. We hope to grow this network to include other US and international locations. If you would like to host a GrabPERF measurement location, please contact us.
On regularly scheduled intervals, agents gather detailed component, page size, and response code data for presentation in the GrabPERF interface. There is no delay between data capture and data presentation as data is delivered to the central database after every measurement.
This immediate, real-time delivery of data allows companies to gain access to the Web performance insights they need to gain a competitive advantage.
